Frequently Asked Questions

What types of products are manufactured by John Hassall?
John Hassall combines cold forming, hot forging, machining and other secondary operations to manufacture special metal pins, rivets, nails and threaded fasteners.
Where are these parts used?
Everywhere--in automobiles, aircraft engines, telephones and thousands of other industrial and consumer product applications.
Are there any size/capability restrictions?
Our parts range in size up to 9" in length with head and collar diameters to 1" and shank diameters from 1/64" to 1/2".
Are certain applications better suited to cold forming?
Generally when there are five thousand pieces or more to make. Also, when there are significant diameter differences, as well as some length to the part geometry that would otherwise translate into costly chips if screw machined. If tolerances are tight, automated secondary operations can often be combined with a cold formed "near net shape" to meet print requirements and still achieve cost savings over screw machining.
Are certain applications better suited to hot forging?
Usually with aerospace parts that call for difficult-to-form high temperature alloys. In cases like this, the quantities are often small and extensive secondary operations will be required to meet very critical tolerances.
What is John Hassall's on-time performance record?
Over the past year our customer driven on-time performance rating was 97%. Our goal is 100%.
Is John Hassall's quality system certified?
Our systems are certified to ISO 9001:2008, AS 9100 and NADCAP heat-treat standards.
Is there a basis to the longevity (160 years) of John Hassall's success?
No matter what size business, John Hassall's people are committed to providing quality workmanship, fair and reasonable pricing, as well as unequaled service to our customers--whatever their needs may be.
Are all Hassall parts manufactured domestically?
Not necessarily. For a variety of reasons, some products are not ideally suited for domestic manufacturing. In such situations, Hassall offers the option of sourcing those parts from manufacturers we have personally qualified in Mexico, Japan and China. All imported parts must meet the same quality standards required of our domestically manufactured parts.
